URGE GOVERNOR JAY NIXON TO ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER
TO PROTECT STATE EMPLOYEES IN MISSOURI
SIGN UP HERE
In Missouri, there are over 300,000 state employees. Governor Nixon could immediately issue an Executive Order to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression which will protect valuable employees of the State. Such an Executive Order would demonstrate to Missourians that state employees are evaluated fairly based on their qualifications.
If Governor Nixon issues this order, he will join a movement toward more inclusive nondiscrimination policies that states across the nation initiated as early as the mid-1970s.
- 95% of Fortune 500 companies have adopted sexual orientation into their nondiscrimination policies.
- 25 states have laws that protect state employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation
- 10 states are operating under active Executive Orders to protect their state employees: Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
It is time for Governor Nixon to lead by example and act by protecting State employees in Missouri from discrimination. You may read the proposed Executive Order here: employment_protection_executive_order
