How has the Policy Project affected the lives of Missourians?

To date, the PROMO Fund Policy Project has successfully included:

  • Attorney General Chris Koster appointing the first official liaison to the LGBT Community.
  • Treasure Clint Zweifel and Attorney General Chris Koster implementing a full nondiscrimination policy in their respective offices.
  • Governor Nixon issuing a World AIDS Day Proclomation in December 2009. This was the first time World AIDS Day was recognized by the state of Missouri. You can see the proclamation here.

  • Collection of data on discrimination cases where real or peceived sexual orientation or gender identity are a factor. You can view the form here.
  • Governor Nixon extending an Executive Order barring discrimination for most state employees based on sexual orientation. You can read EO 10-24 here.

In the near future, we hope to report further advances. PROMO Fund was recently awarded a grant by the Missouri Foundation For Health to partner with S.A.G.E. of Metro St. Louis to build dialogue among state health providers and policy bodies on LGBT inclusion in services.

PROMO is Missouri's statewide organization advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality through legislative action, electoral politics, grassroots organizing, and community education. We identify LGBT rights supporters, educate them on the issues, give them the tools and the confidence to participate in the political process, and get results. PROMO's goals are to help LGBT Missourians create a supportive and visible community, become active in the democratic process, and work for their equal protection under the law. We build community awareness and grassroots support for LGBT equality and increase civic participation of LGBT Missourians.
