LGBT History Month: Rudolph Nickens

Rudolph is a the director of Equal Opportunity and Diversity for the Missouri Department of Transportation in Jefferson City.

One program he started is “First Mondays”  At the beginning of every month, MoDOT provides an open educational forum on some diversity-related topics, such as race, antisemitism, sexual orientation, gender or class.
Rudy ran the Sunshine Inn (a community hub), campaigns and movements were launched out of the place in St. Louis until 1998. The National Coalition of Black Lesbians and Gays had a national meeting at the Sunshine Inn in 1987. He has also served on the board of SSM Healthcare.
