From all of us at PROMO, we’d like to join you in commemorating the start of Pride season during this crucial moment in our country’s history.
Pride is going to feel and look a lot different for all of this year. COVID-19, and the subsequent economic fallout, were already revealing the inequities interwoven into our American fabric – particularly for our nation’s Black and brown communities.
We traditionally begin this month by reflecting back on the people, organizations, and communities that paved the way before us. Fifty-one years ago, Black and brown trans women fought back against the rampant police brutality in the name of equality. Their actions have given rise to a diverse and enduring movement that we celebrate today with one another.
We know that there is still significant work to do to gain full equality and acceptance for all. This month, PROMO is reimagining the potential in celebrating, honoring, and taking action during Pride by showing up where you are. We hope you’ll consider tuning into our events listed below, learning alongside us, support the restaurants and businesses committed to LGBTQ equality in our state, and taking action to make sure that everyone in our state votes for pride, with pride – sign-on below.
