Anti-LGBT Proposed Constitutional Amendment SJR 39 Passes Out of Missouri’s Senate

Dear Friend,

In case you haven’t been tuning in, the Senate Democrats just finished a 39 hour filibuster of the anti-LGBT bill SJR 39. We are beyond grateful for their leadership and perseverance. Unfortunately, the Senate still forced a vote on the bill, and it has passed out of the Senate in a vote of 23-9.

But this is not over.

As these incredible Senators have shown us over the last two days, there ARE leaders who are willing to stand up (literally and figuratively) to any obstacle of equality because of you. And these same leaders have depended on your very important voice throughout this fight.

SJR 39, a bill that would add LGBT discrimination into the state constitution by way of a public vote, is now headed to the House of Representatives. Please add your name here and tell House Speaker Todd Richardson to STOP SJR39 now. The House still has an opportunity to do the right thing.

Even though this bill is moving to the next step, we should all be proud of the 8 Senators who tirelessly opposed this bill on the floor, Senator Maria Chapelle-Nadal, Senator Kiki Curls, Senator Jason Holsman, Senator Joseph Keaveny, Senator Jamilah Nasheed, Senator Jill Schupp, Senator Scott Sifton and Senator Gina Walsh (you can thank them here), and you should be proud of each person in Missouri and across the country (and world!) who has been a part of this first step.

Please continue to work alongside us as we move the pressure to the House to stop this dangerous bill once and for all. To help us continue this fight to stop SJR39, please consider a gift of $39 or sign up to support PROMO all session long and all year round by signing up to give a sustaining, monthly gift in honor of the 39 hours of filibuster.

Again, this is not over.

In solidarity,

Steph Perkins
