The Special Administrative Board of the Saint Louis Public School System announced that they are changing their employment benefits to include coverage for same-sex married spouses. The change will go into effect on March 1, 2014.

In addition, Boone County State Treasurer Nicole Galloway stated that in her office she would treat any marriage license the same. This means that all legally married couples can claim money that is due to their partner. If couples would like to check for unclaimed money they can go to this link: http://showmeboone.com/Treasurer/UCP.asp.

Both of these changes in policies come at a time in which Missouri is seeing a growing number of people supporting the freedom to marry for all Missourians.

A.J. Bockelman, Executive Director of PROMO, concluded, “It is great to see that institutions such as SLPS and Boone County look to the practical implications of marriage and apply it appropriately as it related to their policies.”

About PROMO: PROMO is Missouri’s statewide advocacy organization promoting equal treatment under the law for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
