“Remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” – Harriet Tubman

My friends, we are at week 1 of the 2017 Missouri legislative session, and when I tell you that I am excited, I wish you could also hear me squealing with delight. Last spring, when I accepted this position with PROMO, I had no idea that I would have the opportunity to represent my #MOfam with our elected officials. As PROMO’s lobbyist, I will be in our state capitol doing what I do best…talking and making friends with many, many different kinds of folks.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there is a certain amount of, “Ummmm…what in the heck am I doing?” And, when I realized what my role would entail after a certain event in November, I was a little nervous. However, the very next day I was in Jeff City, at a workshop, doing the work. This was not coincidence. I am exactly where I need to be, and I want to take you with me.

Each week, I will be using this blog to share with you, my #MOfam, what is happening at the Capitol. So many of you have expressed to me your desire to get engaged and become active in the work. By reading this blog and subscribing to PROMO’s other social media platforms, you can stay connected and informed. Being informed by trusted sources is important — very, very important.

I don’t know what the next five months will hold for the future of LGBT policy in our state, but I do know that PROMO is going to work fiercely to make connections and defeat whatever may come our way. This is why you have an LGBT equality organization, Missouri. So, we can be on the ground, in the Capitol, effecting change.

Stay tuned as I keep you updated from the Capitol on what is happening. Also, save the date for Equality Day which is on February 14 this year. Together let’s #ShowMOlove.

Reaching for the stars starts now.
