PROMO has an active presence lobbying at the Capitol. Lobbying is simply an effort to win the support of legislators or other public officials for a position on a piece of specific legislation or a specific legislative proposal.
Our goal is to talk to legislators about issues that LGBT Missourians face.
How can you get involved? Personal lobby visits by people just like you are the most persuasive tool for affecting issues in the legislature. That is why we ask you to join us at our annual lobby day, Equality Day, at the Capitol. Equality Day is in February and April each session. Here is a guide that will help you.
Because of our presence at the Capitol, PROMO has helped kill 32 blatantly anti-LGBT bills in the past three years. Missouri Nondiscrimination Act is a positive pro-LGBT bill that PROMO supports.
Steve McLuckie introduced the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA) for the first time in 1998.
MONA would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace. MONA would simply extend the existing Missouri Human Rights Statute to include LGBT people.
During legislative session, stay tuned for how you can stay involved.
