Facing COVID-19 Together (Vaccine Updates)

At PROMO we know how difficult of a time this is, especially for our LGBTQ family. Below is a list of resources, including sources to sign-up to get the COVID-19 vaccine, that we’ve complied to the best of our ability. We have not worked with or vetted each organization, effort, or campaign listed. Please do your own research before providing personal information. (The older adult resource accessed through clicking the graphic below is compiled with the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and SAGE of PROMO).

Practice good hygiene habits.

  • Social distancing is really important. Staying home and avoiding all unnecessary trips is highly important. Avoid in-person contact with people who are sick. Instead, call them on the phone or use video services to connect.
  • Stay at home if you are sick (unless you are getting medical care).
  • Frequently clean objects and surfaces (Click here for CDC’s recommendations for cleaning products).
  • Try not to touch your face.
  • Take care of your loved ones’ and your emotional health. Provide support and assurance, especially for children.

  • Information for people living with HIV and recommendations for staying safe
  • For our GNB and transgender siblings: Navigating COVID-19 and Chest Binding
    **Chest binding WILL NOT increase your odds of contracting COVID-19, but binding so tightly that it reduces chest capacity is dangerous if you get any respiratory illness.
  • A ER Guide specific for Trans Folks
  • The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri compiled a caregiving resource list: Caregiving During COVID-19
  • For trans people navigating COVID-19, the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund created a “Know Your Rights” document: Know Your Rights

Mental Health Resources

  • For GNB/ Trans people in the STL area: Metro Trans Umbrella Group online support groups
  • Exercise Videos for all: Yoga, LifeTime Fitness, Daily Burn 60-day Free Trial, YouTube Workouts
  • Trans Equality created a specific resource guide:  What Trans People Need to Know
  • Gender Spectrum’s guide to help cope – Help Coping with Social Isolation
  • Teletherapy for Addiction and Mental Health – online program

Recovery Resources

  • Alcoholics Anonymous Online Groups
  • Alcoholics Anonymous Online LGBT Support Groups
  • In the Rooms — Global Recovery Community

Food Resources

  • Contact your Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and register for home delivered meals (commonly referred to Meals on Wheels). You can search for your AAA here: https://eldercare.acl.gov/Public/Index.aspx or call 1-800-677-1116. (Missouri AAA offices are listed started on page 3).
  • If you need food or groceries and have a smartphone: Instacart can deliver groceries and household items to your door from stores like Aldi, Schnucks, and Target. Services like GrubHub and DoorDash are also delivering takeout orders. These companies specifically have nondiscrimination workplace protections, and have spoken out to add pressure for state and federal nondiscrimination protections. Utilizing companies who have LGBTQ inclusive policies during crisis helps our LGBTQ community overall.
  • Feeding Missouri – Food Assistance
  • Free breakfast/ lunches K-12 kids while school is closed: All our kids food resources, Local lists, Kansas City Metro Area locations, St. Louis library drive-thru meals
  • If you are able to support local businesses who are offering curbside pick up, and gift cards – choose those who support the LGBTQ community in Missouri.
  • For the St. Louis trans community – Metro Trans Umbrella Group is offering online support groups and food with safe, non-contact delivery.

Financial Resources

  • Ameren – for help with utility payments or inability to pay
  • Internet: Spectrum, ComCast, Mediacom – for assistance obtaining free and reduced cost internet while working and learning from home is necessary
  • Freelance Artists – for assistance navigating loss of income, etc.
  • Bartenders – grants / loans for assistance navigating loss of income
  • Service Workers – grants / loans for assistance navigating loss of income
  • Service Workers Mutual Aid Fund – assistance navigating loss of income
  • Childcare for Healthcare Workers – assistance navigating loss of income

Family and Youth Resources

  • All our kids food resources – For youth to maintain their meals twice daily
