A new study from the Williams Institute reports high numbers of LGBT youth receiving conversion therapy.
The report estimates that 20,000 LGBT youth (ages 13-17) will receive conversion therapy from a licensed health care profession before the time they reach 18 in one of the states in which it is not banned (Missouri is included in that number of 41 states).
Other key findings reported by the Williams Institute include:
- 698,000 LGBT adults have received conversion therapy in the United States, including 350,000 that received treatment as adolescents.
- 6,000 LGBT youth would have received conversion therapy if their state had not banned the practice. Nine states have banned conversion therapy, check out this list.
